120 BOW COMMON LANE

120 Bow Common Lane, built in 1930 by Sir Walter Tapper, was used as an office buildings for the former gasworks. The offices included a laboratory, a dining room, kitchen, social meeting room and an ambulance room. In October 2021, we received planning permission to begin the refurbishment works, including a minor extension to the former 1920’s office and laboratory building known as 120 Bow Common Lane. Designed by renowned architect Sir Walter Tapper, this building provides an important opportunity to celebrate the history of the gasworks and heritage of the local area at the development. These works began in early 2022 and will safeguard this historic structure for future generations and bring the building in to public use for the first time in its history. Initially, this building will be used as the Sales and Marketing suite for the development, ensuring the active use of the building until a commercial occupier can be found. ‘Bow Yard’ will be created adjacent this building. The publically accessible yard will be suitable for a wide range of activities such as street markets, outdoor events or performances, whilst the building itself will be made suitable for a range of uses, such as workspace, a café or pub.
